Business & Project Management


Metropolis Group
2005
For 8 months in 2005 I was working at Metropolis in London on a new concept in interactive gaming using DVD Video technology. I was employed as a contract Project Manager, and was then asked to stay on permanently to head the interactive section. I managed five full-time staff and several freelancers.


EditHouse Video Post-Production Facilities Pty Ltd
2001-2005
For four years I managed the video post-production company EditHouse. This included responsibility for all the legal, financial and other aspects of the company. EditHouse employed several freelance and casual staff.

2002-2004
During ABC TV's move to the Ultimo Centre in 2003, I was employed as a Project Manager 2 to 4 days a week for 12 months. I was responsible for planning the production facilities for the digital television youth channel, Fly TV, the music program Rage and the helipad playout centre for News. I also shared responsibility for designing the new RF house monitoring system for both TV & radio. Since then, I have returned and worked on several smaller projects.

1995-1998
As the National Technical Trainer for ABC Television, I was responsible for the Broadcast Engineering Trainee scheme. This involved the employment and development of technical trainees. I also worked closely with the ABC EEO Officer in regard to the Macquarie University Young Women and Physics residential schools and the ABC scholarship scheme for women studying Electrical Engineering.

1992-1994
Working for ABC-TV's Planning and Installation areas, I was required to direct staff and contractors, and liaise with management, technical and operations staff. I oversaw the conversion of the News Syndication area to a stereo format, and planned, supervised and commissioned the refurbishment of the primary Sound Effects Suite.


I am fully conversant with office administrative tools, including the MS Office suite, MS Project and the MYOB accounting and payroll application. In 2004 I completed a Graduate Certificate in Commerce at the University of Sydney.

Broadcast Engineering


EditHouse Video Post-Production Facilities Pty Ltd
2001-2005
I personally installed and maintained all of EditHouse's electronic and computing equipment. The facilities included Avid Xpress, Final Cut Pro, DVCAM and Betacam SP systems.

Television Sydney Limited
2003
In April 2003 I was asked to design the technical facilities for the Television Sydney (TVS) bid for the Channel 31 broadcasting license in Sydney. This included a design philosophy, schematic drawings and a budget for technical equipment, for a fully functional community television station. On 18 March 2004 this bid was declared successful and the ABA allocated the Channel 31 community television license to TVS (Press Release, Technical Specification).

2002-2003
For the technical fit-out of the ABC's new studios in Ultimo, I planned and commissioned the installation of Fly-TV's Avid LANshare and of a sizable portion of the RF house monitoring systems throughout the centre.


Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation
2000
During the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, I was the Technical Operation Centre (TOC) Supervisor for the Darling Harbour Convention Centre. As such, I was responsible for all television and radio signals entering and leaving the venue. This included the Host Broadcaster's coverage of the weightlifting, several Rights Holder signals, the Darling Harbour "beauty shot" and the City-South leg of the Marathon.

1994-1995
In ABC-TV's Master Control, I was required to understand all technical aspects of the television station, including the operation and repair of all Central Apparatus Room equipment, monitoring of station signals, and urgent crash maintenance in the event that there was a fault with the on-air signal. MCR personnel are also required to advise ABC staff and the general public on technical matters relating to the ABC.

1990-1993
While working in various ABC maintenance areas, I gained experience in the electronics theory learned at TAFE. Equipment in the ABC's Studio, Videotape, Telecine and ENG maintenance areas ranged the full expanse of television technology.


I completed an Associate Diploma in Electrical Engineering at North Sydney TAFE in 1991, and completed a Bachelor of Computing, with a Credit average, through Monash University distance education in 2004. I have also attended many Sony and ABC Technical Training courses and have been a member of SMPTE since 1997.

Since 1996 I have written dozens of training notes, exams and course outlines for television station employees and tertiary media students.

During 2002 & 2003 I developed 8 modules for TAFE's Diploma of Screen and Diploma of Digital Media, including Operate Master Control, Configure Broadcast Software, DVD Authoring and Manage Multimedia Assets.

Training and Public Speaking


University of New South Wales
2002-2004
For six semesters I taught video editing and DVD authoring to third year Media & Communications students at the University of New South Wales. I also taught editing at UWS in 2003-04, and I was a guest speaker at a MetroScreen DVD Authoring course in 2002.

I have presented lectures on DVD authoring and technology before 90 industry attendees at an OzDox seminar in the AFC Theatre and before 250 DV Fest attendees at both the Darling Harbour Convention Centre and the Melbourne Convention Centre.


Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE
2000-2003
From 2000 to 2003 I taught part-time at Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE as part of their Diploma in Film and Television Production course. At various times I taught the subjects Small Business Management, Multimedia Production, Media Information & the Internet and Optics & Light.


Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation
1998-2000
During the two years leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games I was one of two people who developed the Host Broadcast Training Program. We trained eight hundred university students to perform the roles of Audio and Camera Assistants, CCU Operators, Videotape Loggers and Liaison Officers. The program was a great success, with our students being given much praise from the overseas production crews and rights holders. I also developed a training program for the technical staff who worked in the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and the Technical Operations Centres (TOC) at each venue.

In 1998 I co-led a two week Train the Trainer course in Phnom Penh for Television Kampuchea and National Radio of Cambodia as part of an ABC development programme funded by AusAID.

Design and Production


EditHouse Video Post-Production Facilities Pty Ltd
2001-2005
In 4 years of trading, EditHouse's client list included the Australia Council for the Arts, Australian National Maritime Museum, Australian Trade Commission, dLux Media Arts, Australian Performing Arts Directory, TWI, 8 Commercials, Buspak, Fitness First, Fun Fitness, Aon Livewire, Channel 31 Movie Show, DVD Now magazine and many others. I personally performed all the DVD authoring and video encoding for this work, as well as a portion of the video editing and graphic design.

2001-2002
For "Testimony, The Legend of Charlie Parker", which played at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival 2002, we put 50 video clips and 70 still images onto DVD-R's. These images were projected onto a huge screen behind the jazz musicians.

The DISCulture DVD 2001-2002
In early 2002 my company authored and published a compilation DVD of short films and animations. I was the Producer and DVD Author for this project. The DVD was reviewed in Filmink magazine - "Short films, particularly indie ones, rarely get the digital (deluxe) treatment, and EditHouse have transferred them immaculately, taking full advantage of the technology". Filmink review 4 out of 5. DVD Now review 3.5 out of 5. Empire review 4 out of 5.
