MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE
|
For 8 months in 2005 I worked at Metropolis recording studios in London on a new concept in interactive gaming using DVD Video technology. I initially started as a contract Project Manager, but was asked to stay on permanently to head the interactive section. I managed six full time staff and several freelancers.
For four years I managed my own video post-production company called EditHouse. This included responsibility for all the legal, financial and other aspects of the company. EditHouse employed several freelance and casual staff.
During ABC TV's move to the Ultimo Centre in 2003, I was employed as a Project Manager 2 to 4 days a week for 12 months. I was responsible for planning the production facilities for the digital television youth channel, Fly TV, the music program Rage and the helipad playout centre for News. I also shared responsibility for designing the new RF house monitoring system for both TV & radio.
As the National Technical Trainer for ABC Television (1995-98), I was responsible for the Broadcast Engineering Trainee scheme. This involved the employment and development of technical trainees. I also worked closely with the ABC EEO Officer in regard to the Macquarie University Young Women and Physics residential schools and the ABC scholarship scheme for women studying Electrical Engineering.
Working for ABC-TV's Planning and Installation area in the mid-90's, I was required to direct staff and contractors, and liaise with management, technical and operations staff. I oversaw the conversion of the News Syndication area to a stereo format, and planned, supervised and commissioned the refurbishment of the primary Sound Effects Suite.
I am fully conversant in office administrative tools, including the MS Office suite, MS Project and the MYOB accounting and payroll application.

BROADCAST ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE
|
I personally installed and maintained all of EditHouse's electronic and computing equipment. The facilities included Avid Xpress, Final Cut Pro, DVCAM and Betacam SP systems.
For the technical fit-out of the ABC's new studios in Ultimo, I planned and commissioned the installation of Fly-TV's Avid LANshare and a large portion of the RF house monitoring systems throughout the centre.
In April 2003, I was asked to design the technical facilities for the Television Sydney (TVS) bid for Sydney's community-broadcasting license. This included a design philosophy, schematic drawings and equipment budget for a fully functional community television station. On 18 March 2004, this bid was declared successful and the ABA allocated the Channel 31 television license to TVS.
During the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, I was the Technical Operation Centre (TOC) Supervisor for the Darling Harbour Convention Centre. As such, I was responsible for all television and radio signals entering and leaving the venue. This included the Host Broadcaster's coverage of the weightlifting, several Rights Holder signals, the Darling Harbour "beauty shot" and the City-South leg of the Marathon.
In ABC-TV's Master Control, I was required to understand all technical aspects of the television station, including the operation and repair of all Central Apparatus Room equipment, monitoring of station signals, and urgent crash maintenance in the event that there was a fault with the on-air signal. MCR personnel are also required to advise ABC staff and the general public on technical matters relating to the ABC.
While working in various ABC maintenance areas, I gained experience in the electronics theory learned at TAFE. Equipment in the ABC's Studio, Videotape, Telecine and ENG maintenance areas ranged the full expanse of television technology.

TRAINING EXPERIENCE
|
- For the 3 years before I moved to London, I taught video editing and DVD authoring to Masters and third year Media & Communications students at the University of New South Wales. I have also taught editing at UWS and was a guest speaker at a MetroScreen DVD Authoring course.
- From late 2000 until 2003, I was employed part-time at Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE as a teacher for their Film and Television Production course. I taught the subjects Small Business Management, Multimedia Production, Production Documentation, Media Information & the Internet and Optics & Light.
- I have written several technical articles and reviews for Digital Media World and other magazines.
- During 2003 I developed 8 modules for TAFE's Diploma of Screen and Diploma of Digital Media, including Operate Master Control, Configure Broadcast Software, DVD Authoring and Manage Multimedia Assets.
- During the two years leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games I was one of two people who developed the Host Broadcast Training Program.
We trained eight hundred university students
to perform the roles of Audio and Camera Assistants, CCU Operators, Videotape Loggers and Liaison
Officers. The program was a great success, with our students being given much praise from the overseas production crews and rights holders. I also developed a training program for the technical staff who worked in
the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and the Technical Operations Centres (TOC) at
each venue.
- During the past eight years I have designed, managed and delivered the following training courses:-
- Project Management: 2 day course for technical, production & management staff

MEDIA PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE
|
I have extensive experience with the following systems and programs: Avid Xpress, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, Media Cleaner, QuickTime Pro and MS PowerPoint.
Part of my work in London involved being the Producer for several DVD projects. For this work, I had a staff of 4 designers, 2 DVD authors and a QC technician, as well as several freelancers. These projects dealt with the highly successful Postman Pat and Angelina Ballerina brands, as well as DVD's for BBC Languages.
In early 2002 my company authored and published a compilation DVD of short films and animations. The DVD was reviewed in Filmink magazine - "Short films, particularly indie ones, rarely get the digital (deluxe) treatment, and EditHouse have transferred them immaculately, taking full advantage of the technology". Filmink review 4 out of 5. DVD Now review 3.5 out of 5. Empire review 4 out of 5.
For "Testimony, The Legend of Charlie Parker", which played at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival 2002, EditHouse put 50 video clips and 70 still images onto DVD-R's. These images were projected onto a huge screen behind the jazz musicians.
In 4 years of trading, EditHouse's client list included the Australia Council for the Arts, Australian National Maritime Museum, dLux Media Arts, Australian Performing Arts Directory, TWI, 8 Commercials, Buspak, Fitness First, Aon Livewire, Channel 31 Movie Show, DVD Now magazine and many others. I personally performed all the DVD authoring and video encoding for this work, as well as a portion of the video editing and graphic design.

Twenty-four years ago I started writing BASIC and Assembly programs on a Z-80 and I have been programming ever since. I am conversant with most major PC languages. Most of my work has been on IBM compatibles, but I have also dealt with everything from Macintosh and Silicon Graphics, to PDP-11 and 6502 hardware. Most of my recent computer work has been in HTML, PHP and Perl CGI scripts.
I have written the code for the following Internet projects:-
- Instigated, designed and maintained a web site for SOBO's 800 trainees. This site included a bulletin board and several self-marking interactive quizzes. It was visited more than 20,000 times in the 2 years leading up to the Games.
- Designed and instigated an intranet site for ABC-TV's Training Department.
- A bulk mailout engine (through which 12,000 clients received weekly emails), password protection system and on-line insurance quotation calculator for René Rivkin's site.
- The database search engine for Carricks Family Bookshop.
- Design and creation of a web site for AB Communicates, based on the company brochure.
- Design and creation of web sites for my own business - EditHouse and ICTV.
